Of all the recordings I've produced and played on, I haven't released a solo piano recording since 1977 which was my first recording titled "The First" and was pressed on vinyl before CD's and digital downloads even existed. So 30+ years later, here I am putting together a collection of my favorite romantic love songs along with a few of my own originals, one of which was written in 1975 for when my son Matthew was born. This is my first official release of "For Matthew". I'm very proud to say he has gone on as a very talented singer, songwriter and keyboardist with his band "Vanilla Monk". The other originals were all written in 2007-08. Most of my favorites are classic jazzy tunes and love songs written by some of the most well-known composers; Rodgers & Hart, Hammerstein, Cole Porter, Lennon & McCartney, Elllington, to name a few.
When I was asked to create a Solo Piano channel for Sky.fm radio back in early 2007, I came to realize that I had very few 'solo' piano recordings of my own that I could add to Sky's channel. It inspired me to start recording some more of my own favorite piano pieces. I hope you enjoy the CD and share it with someone you love. ~ Gary
